The legend of Mount Tampomas, West Java

 Mount Gede erupts.

One day, suddenly there was a rumbling sound accompanied by a strong shaking ground.

The people of Sumedang Larang suddenly felt overwhelmed.

They ran out of the house into the open.

After investigating, it turned out that the roar came from Mount Gede which seemed to be about to erupt.

Sumedang Larang people who live at the foot of Mount Gede are worried about this situation.

They immediately packed up and went with their family to flee from Mount Gede.

King Sumedang forbids getting clues

The news of the eruption of Mount Gede, of course, reached the Sumedang Larang royal palace.

The wise young king was saddened by the threat of the eruption of Mount Gede.

The king was very worried about the condition of his people.

Therefore, the king decided to meditate to ask the Almighty for guidance.

The king then told Patih that he would meditate.

"I will meditate to ask the Almighty for guidance to overcome the threat of the eruption of Mount Gede. You are in charge of the kingdom for a while. " said the king to the Patih.

"Yes, King, I obey the king's orders." said the Patih.

The king then entered a special room used for meditation.

After several days of meditating, the king finally listened to a magical whisper that ordered him to throw the golden kris belonging to his ancestors into the crater of Mount Gede.

"If you want to save your people from the catastrophic eruption of Mount Gede, then throw the golden kris belonging to your ancestors into the crater of Mount Gede. Surely the roar of Mount Gede will subside. "

After hearing the mysterious whisper, the king fell unconscious.

Feeling worried about the king's condition because he had not left the meditation room for several days, the guards ventured into the meditation room and found the king fainted.

The soldiers then took the king out and immediately called Patih and the palace healers.

Sometime later the king regained consciousness from fainting.

The king immediately told Patih that he had to go to the crater of Mount Gede to throw the golden kris belonging to his ancestors.

"I must immediately go to the crater of Mount Gede and throw the golden kris that belonged to my ancestors so that the roar of Mount Gede will subside." said the king.

“But it's very dangerous, king. I'll do it. " said the Patih.

"Can not. I have to do it myself to save my people from this disaster. I gave up my life to save my people. " said the king.

Finally, on horseback, the king went to the top of Mount Gede.

The king ran through various obstacles.

Only one thing that the king thought about at that time was the safety of his people, the people of Sumedang Larang.

After arriving at the top of Mount Gede with great difficulty, the king approached the edge of the crater and threw down the golden kris belonging to his ancestors.

A miracle happened, the crater of Mount Gede, which had been turbulent, gradually calmed down, the roar could not be heard again.

The king was grateful that the instructions were correct.

The king's sacrifice in climbing Mount Gede paid off.

After making sure the crater of Mount Gede was safe, finally the king returned to the royal palace, where the people welcomed their king.

The king was happy that finally Mount Gede did not erupt and all the people of the Sumedang Larang kingdom survived.

Since that incident, Mount Gede has been renamed Mount Tampomas because the crater received a gold keris belonging to the ancestor of the king of Sumedang Larang.
